Traffic Alert - Nov 7, 2018

This is a series of alerts that will announce construction detours and street closure information as it affects traffic. Please watch for updated traffic alerts as construction activities progress.

On Wednesday, November 7, 2018, the contractor will install temporary asphalt on the north side of Broadway Boulevard from Camino Seco to Harrison Road in preparation of an upcoming traffic shift. This paving operation will take place from approximately 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Beginning at 1 a.m. on Monday, November 12, 2018, east and westbound traffic on Broadway Boulevard will be shifted to the north side of the road between Camino Seco and Harrison Road. This shift will allow the contractor to begin drainage improvements and install new waterline, curb, sidewalk and landscaping along the south side of Broadway Boulevard. This traffic shift is scheduled to be in place through February 2019. During this work travelers in the area should expect the following:

• Traffic on Broadway Boulevard will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Harrison Road and Camino Seco

• Access to side streets on the south side of Broadway Boulevard between Harrison Road and Camino Seco will be maintained, however there may be intermittent restrictions as work progresses through the area

• Access to side streets on the north side of Broadway Boulevard between Harrison Road and Camino Seco will not be impacted during this phase of work

• Through travel and turn movements will be maintained at the Harrison Road and Camino Seco intersections

• Access to businesses and residents will be maintained

• The speed limit is reduced to 25 mph

• The contractors work hours are 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The contractor will also begin an underground utility location operation (pot holing) along Gollob Road between Broadway Boulevard and Appomattox Street. During this operation motorists should expect lane restrictions and plan for delays. This work will take place intermittently though the end of November 2018. Access to residents in the area will be maintained.

October 4, 2018 Thank you for your interest in the Broadway, Camino Seco to Houghton Road Improvement Project. This is the first in a series of alerts that will announce construction detours and street closure information as it affects traffic. Please watch for updated traffic alerts as construction activities progress. From 10 p.m. to midnight on Monday, October 8, 2018, east and westbound traffic on Broadway will be shifted to the north side of the road between Houghton and Harrison roads. This shift will allow the contractor to begin drainage improvements and install new waterline, curb, sidewalk and landscaping along the south side of Broadway. This traffic shift is scheduled to be in place through February 2019. During this work travelers in the area should expect the following: • Traffic on Broadway will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Houghton and Harrison roads • Access to side streets on the south side of Broadway between Houghton and Harrison roads will be maintained, however there may be intermittent restrictions as work progresses through the area • Access to side streets on the north side of Broadway between Houghton and Harrison roads will not be impacted during this phase of work • Through travel and turn movements will be maintained at the Houghton and Harrison road intersections • Access to businesses and residents will be maintained • The speed limit is reduced to 25 mph • The contractors work hours are 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Broadway, Camino Seco to Houghton Road improvements include widening the road to 4-lanes with a raised median, upgraded drainage crossings and roadside channels, new drainage culverts at the Este Wash to allow water to flow under Broadway, new sidewalks on both sides of Broadway, HAWK signal at Gollob Road, LED lighting, native landscape and water harvesting features and public art. The project is part of the $2.1 billion Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) Plan, which will be implemented through 2026. The multimodal plan, nearly halfway through implementation includes roadway, safety, transit, environmental and economic vitality improvements. This project is managed by the City of Tucson. Roadway Construction Start - September 17, 2018

KE&G Construction has won the roadway construction contract and is planning to begin work on September 17, 2018. A pre-construction open house is scheduled for Sept 12, at 5:30 PM at Gridley Middle School.

Utility construction is slated to begin in November

Utility construction is slated to begin in November. These activities will clear conflicts that will allow the roadway improvements to be constructed. 100% roadway design plans have been submitted for review and final approvals will follow this fall. Following procurement of a contractor, roadway construction will begin in the spring of 2018.

Aug 31, 2016 Open House Materials Available

Thank you to all that attended the open house, we had about 220 people come to view the project status and provide input. Materials from the open house are posted in the documents section for viewing.

Design Status

The Broadway East design is approaching the 60% design complete milestone. An open house is scheduled for Wed Aug 31 to present the design status. Open House will be at Gridley Middle School at 5:30 with a brief presentation at 5:45.
